Last call night!!!

29 July, 2010 (22:17) | Uncategorized | By: Gina

Tonight’s my final call night in the PICU this month!  I’ve even saved up my last day off for Saturday so I’ll be off for 42 glorious hours before I come back.  As much as I love this place, I’m rather tired at the end of the long month and am ready to move on to something a little less crazy for a bit.

It’s catching up to me!

Thanks to being busy with my family the last 3-4 days in a row, I’ve become even more sleep deprived than usual.  Unfortunately, I don’t think this is a wise way to get ready for another call night.

So…off to bed I go.  At 8pm.  Like a little old lady :)

Dad – 1, Acura – 0

Over the weekend, Dad asked me and my sisters when we’d be free to trek up to the Acura dealership in Edmond with him.  We all decided on Monday, so off we went yesterday…Dad, Evan, my sisters, and me.  He wanted a black RDX with AWD and without the navigation system and they only had it on the lot with nav.  He fell for the car anyway so he decided to start talking numbers.

Armed with my trusty phone and the mobile Edmunds website, I checked on the “true market value” for the car when he and I were talking to the sales manager.  Dad pitched $100 less than that (the salesman wanted $2000 more).  After some ridiculous back-and-forth, complete with writing the price on a piece of paper and sliding it across the desk, the manager said he couldn’t go further than $1000 off his original offer.  Dad promptly stood up, said, “no thanks,” and shook his hand.

This morning they called with a slightly lower offer, but Dad still said no.  Then after lunch, they called him again and said it was his for his price if he still wanted it.  So off we went again tonight…and he drove his brand new car home!  All the extra features he didn’t really need (but are fun to have anyway) for as much as he was planning to pay on the basic model.

Pretty sweet, eh?  He’s finally gotten himself something nice for once instead of spending it on his girls…I’m so proud of him!!!

Moira’s Misadventures

26 July, 2010 (23:28) | the dog | By: Gina

Moira needs to get out of the house and socialize with other dogs.  She’s quite nice and friendly towards most people, but she takes time to warm up to dogs…probably because she thinks she’s a small, furry human.  Hopefully Evan and I will be able to take her to the dog park soon with Shaheen next time she takes her puppies out.

Yaaaaaaawn

24 July, 2010 (20:55) | residency | By: Gina

As long and painful as my call night was last night (a code on the floor, a code in the PICU, plus some ridiculous number of admits), I still managed to rest a little bit more than the attendings I saw stumbling around blurry-eyed with me throughout the night.  Poor guys.  I hope they all had a chance to rest up today.

Grumble grumble grumble

If I hadn’t had the day off yesterday, I think I’d be ready to punch someone by now.

What a wonderful day off

We slept in today until a ridiculously late hour (8am!), bummed around a bit, and went to see Inception (which was awesome, by the way).  I’m not madly in love with Joseph Gordon-Levitt like SOMEONE is, but I did think he did a very good job in it.  Then we came home, bummed around some more, and Evan cooked some fantastic steaks for dinner.

Now I’m full and happy and ready for bed!

Time to relax!

After a stressful couple of days, I get to take a day off, hang out with Evan, and go see Inception!  Hope it lives up to all the hype…especially all the hype from Michelle, who is seemingly now madly in love with Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

oooOOOooo!

Look at this!  It would match my Lego watch and my super-awesome Adidas kicks so perfectly!  It even makes me wish my car was silver so it could look a little like the Millennium Falcon…

Moira’s Misadventures

I thought Moira was excited to see me when I came home post-call today, but apparently she was really just interested in the stuff I was holding.  Mean little dog.

I think the 2 months of laziness are catching up with me

17 July, 2010 (22:40) | residency | By: Gina

I’d been worried at the start of July that after being on a couple easy rotations back to back, I’d have a hard time adjusting to real work again in the PICU.  I actually felt fine until the last time I was on call Wednesday…and since then I’ve been exhausted.  I’ve slept a ton today on my day off and am looking forward to sleeping well tonight before being on call again already.  I did just realize though that tomorrow will be call 5 out of 7 this month, so at least I’m past the halfway point!

There must be something wrong with me

16 July, 2010 (21:16) | residency | By: Gina

It’s always the busy days that really remind me of all the reasons I love the PICU.  Not that I’m asking for busy days this month to remind me…I’m also happy taking it easy.

Time for more pictures

I’m feeling an itch to start taking more pictures again, but work has been taking up all my time and I just don’t know what to do with my stormtroopers.  I also need to finish up the Death Star diorama set.  Perhaps next month, when I”m on a clinic rotation.
