Big picture life plans as they relate to cars

Because of my recent car troubles (check engine light, weird stuff happening at stop lights – all turned out to be the cam sensor which has been replaced and is now a non-issue), Evan and I started talking about what kind of cars we might get next.  His is 11 years old and mine’s 6.  Both are still fantastic cars, but we were just thinking long-term, like when we move for my fellowship, different weather condtions (my car can’t handle ice at all, and his isn’t much better), etc.

As you probably know, I’m madly in love with the 370z.  Seeing one in person makes my heart skip a beat.  I’d had my heart set on getting one in an automatic since I first laid eyes on it.  Evan likes the car quite a bit too, and we both like little sports cars much better than practical cars, but he’s a stick shift kind of guy.

Then we started talking about the sensible car.  After being in one and seeing several around, I think the most reasonable, safe, 4-wheel drive car that Evan and I both like is the Rav4 (thanks Jasmine!).  It’s a good size, has a good engine, and can handle non-ideal weather conditions.

And then I had a bright idea!  If we got the 370z in a stick shift and the Rav4, we’d have everything we both wanted!  I’m totally willing to learn to drive a stick shift and the only reason I’ve been so opposed to SUVs in the past is because my dad wanted me to replace my sporty two-seater with it.  (Well-meaning but crazy Dad.)

So…if Evan and I have a spare $75k to plunk down on two brand new cars in the next few years, these are the ones we’re getting.  I’ve been picking out colors and accessories all afternoon :-D
