Dad – 1, Acura – 0
Over the weekend, Dad asked me and my sisters when we’d be free to trek up to the Acura dealership in Edmond with him. We all decided on Monday, so off we went yesterday…Dad, Evan, my sisters, and me. He wanted a black RDX with AWD and without the navigation system and they only had it on the lot with nav. He fell for the car anyway so he decided to start talking numbers.
Armed with my trusty phone and the mobile Edmunds website, I checked on the “true market value” for the car when he and I were talking to the sales manager. Dad pitched $100 less than that (the salesman wanted $2000 more). After some ridiculous back-and-forth, complete with writing the price on a piece of paper and sliding it across the desk, the manager said he couldn’t go further than $1000 off his original offer. Dad promptly stood up, said, “no thanks,” and shook his hand.
This morning they called with a slightly lower offer, but Dad still said no. Then after lunch, they called him again and said it was his for his price if he still wanted it. So off we went again tonight…and he drove his brand new car home! All the extra features he didn’t really need (but are fun to have anyway) for as much as he was planning to pay on the basic model.
Pretty sweet, eh? He’s finally gotten himself something nice for once instead of spending it on his girls…I’m so proud of him!!!
