Month: July, 2010

There must be something wrong with me

16 July, 2010 (21:16) | residency | By: Gina

It’s always the busy days that really remind me of all the reasons I love the PICU.  Not that I’m asking for busy days this month to remind me…I’m also happy taking it easy.

Time for more pictures

15 July, 2010 (21:08) | home | By: Gina

I’m feeling an itch to start taking more pictures again, but work has been taking up all my time and I just don’t know what to do with my stormtroopers.  I also need to finish up the Death Star diorama set.  Perhaps next month, when I”m on a clinic rotation.

This was a great idea!

I got tired of trying to find a working computer in the PICU with a real internet connection, so Evan suggested bringing in our netbook.  It’s awesome!  Now I can check things while on call on Meditech AND play around on Facebook all I want!

I think I’m doing this backwards

13 July, 2010 (20:33) | home, nerd stuff | By: Gina

To get ready for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows coming out in November, I decided I’d reread the book.  It took all of 3 days and my head is filled with thoughts of wizards and spells and magic, so I’m going to reread Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince next.  Eventually I’ll work my [...]

Moira’s Misadventures

12 July, 2010 (22:24) | the dog | By: Gina

If only the crazy little dog wasn’t so anti-social, I wouldn’t be afraid to take her out and about.  Sigh… (Not that she’s done anything.  She just doesn’t seem to get along well with other dogs.)

Not so formal rounds

10 July, 2010 (18:16) | residency | By: Gina

We had Gormley on rounds this morning and he was running late, so he told me to dismiss everyone else and we’d round together whenever he showed up. So at 11am, he called and we took about 30 minutes to round.  And then he left.  I’ve been hanging out in the lounge with the other [...]

Completely overworked

9 July, 2010 (20:27) | home, residency | By: Gina

When I left the PICU this afternoon, we were at a whopping 2 patients for 3 residents, a sub-I, and a PA student.  Naturally, some people may be getting an extra day off tomorrow Unfortunately I won’t be one of those people since I’m on call.  In anticipation of that, Evan and I had a [...]

Now what???

8 July, 2010 (22:46) | nerd stuff | By: Gina

Evan and I finished Lego Harry Potter and I don’t know what I’m supposed to do with my free time now!  Study?!?  Blech…

That damn eye

7 July, 2010 (22:44) | residency | By: Gina

My eye is reddish again today and was slightly reddish once last week.  To give you an idea of  our attendings’ personalities, here’s what I was asked by several of them. Henry:  Your eye’s doing that thing again! Couloures:  Uh oh, are you getting an infection? Gormley:  Did someone poke you?  (Complete with pokey motion [...]

2 calls down, 5 to go

6 July, 2010 (21:18) | residency | By: Gina

So when does my brain start waking up again after having it easy for a couple months?  I feel like I called the attending more often than I should’ve last night in the PICU, and rounds yesterday were not the prettiest sight.  At least all the attendings are nice…

Moira’s Misadventures

5 July, 2010 (22:49) | the dog | By: Gina

Moira has taken to sleeping next to me on the bed at night.  Cute as this may sound, she’s actually doing it in the most bastardly way possible.  She curls up right against me, shoves me to the edge of the bed, and lays on all my  covers so that I can’t move them.  Then, [...]

Finally, a much-needed day off (T minus 363!)

3 July, 2010 (23:08) | family, nerd stuff | By: Gina

My day off isn’t until tomorrow, but that meant I was able to go out tonight for a movie and dinner.  AND Michelle finally got to see the car! Now to go play some LEGO Harry Potter and rest before playing some more tomorrow

Already post-call! (AKA T minus 364)

2 July, 2010 (22:12) | residency | By: Gina

I had my first of seven PICU calls this month last night, and aside from realizing my brain was sorta slow after 2 months of limited patient care, I think it went pretty well!  I even slept uninterrupted for 6 hours and only woke up because my alarm went off.  Then, because we only have [...]
