Oh Dad…

After Evan proposed Monday, I took a picture of my ring on my hand and sent it to my parents and sisters with a little note explaining why my hand was so red (seriously, just 3 sips of champagne).  Mom, Anna, and Michelle got it right off, but Dad simply asked if that was the first time I’d had champagne.  I called him and tried to get him to understand WHY exactly I’d sent him a picture of my hand, but he missed my not-so-subtle hints and went on to chit chat like normal.  I didn’t know how to break the news to him after he’d completely moved from talking about me to his work, so I figured I’d just wait til we saw each other so I could tell him and show him in person.

That is, until Michelle called yesterday saying we should all go out to celebrate this weekend.  She called Dad to see when he’d be free and he finally figured out what happened, and he freaked out!  He called immediately and was just so cute and excited, telling me that Evan and I have to pick where we’ll go eat and asking when we’ll have the BIG family dinner with everyone and just sorta rambling at me.  Hopefully he’s a little more coherent next time we talk…

Did Evan plan to propose on the 9 (8?) and a half year anniversary?!

Also, my bad! I didn’t realize you were just gonna tell dad in person. I thought he’d just need a reason to close the shop. I also might have said “wedding” instead of “engagement” and he really freaked out. He asked if I was there, and when I said no, he sounded kinda upset. Then I freaked out with him saying “ENGAGEMENT! ENGAGEMENT! NOT WEDDING!”

Oh my…

So THAT’S why he was was acting like that. And no biggie about telling him. It was easier that way :)
