Evan and I flew back home with our families yesterday afternoon. The trip to Mexico itself was awesome, as expected, and the trip home went well with the exception of the bomb scare at Will Rogers that caused us to wait around an extra hour and a half at DFW (45 minutes of which were in the plane on the runway).

Evan and I were at the resort for a little over a week by ourselves and in that time, we did nothing except lay around by the beach.

Me with the Kindle and a pina colada. Reading, drinking, and working on my tan is how I could be found almost every day. That’s basically all I did for two weeks and after being home for a day, I find I already miss it.

I have a ton more pictures, but most of them will have to wait. Dad took a lot of wonderful ones after he got here but I don’t have them yet, and then I’m saving up the ones the wedding photographer took for the reception here in a couple weeks.

We dropped Moira off at Camp Bow Wow for her 2 week vacation from us today (she was so excited to go join her friends that she just marched right in and ditched us!) and then spent some time with our families before we came back home. Now we’re all packed and ready to get a little bit of sleep before our 6am flight in the morning. This is pretty exciting!!!

Since we’ll be out of the country and will have limited internet access, I’m going to take a break from the blog until I get back Everyone have fun!

I spent a large portion of Sunday with my sisters and parents digging through old family pictures to find a few baby ones of myself for our end of the year banquet. Mom and Dad had a good laugh at my persistent baldness until the ripe old age of 18 months and at how much skinnier Dad was back in the day.

One of my favorite pictures, which I will submit for the slideshow, shows me gleefully lording over my Lego castle that Dad bought for “me” for Christmas ’86. I was four and a half when I got the set and was definitely not old enough to follow the instructions. I clearly remember Dad putting the set together while I was busy playing with the knights and horses that came with the set. I also clearly remember him showing off to Mom all of “my” hard work once it was complete. Amazingly enough, his behavior isn’t much different 24 years later…

So plans for the first day off this month are yarn shopping, playing Lego Star Wars, crocheting, hanging out with the family, and then going out to eat!

The past 3 weeks my parents enjoyed a little (big) vacation to Vietnam and they returned today! Luckily today was one of my short days in the NICU (27 days left, woohoo!) so Evan and I had plenty of time to head down there and hang out with them. They both look well and happy, though tired from the long flight back, and they had a handful of funny pictures to show us. Mom and Dad were most excited to show the fabrics they’d picked out for my wedding dress and my sisters’ bridesmaids dresses, and I must say, they did a beautiful job. (It’s very cute how quickly Dad pointed out that one of the finer details was something he’d picked out.)

My parents also brought back wedding gifts! Already!!! I did the right thing and opened them immediately, of course

Mom and Dad are leaving early tomorrow morning to go to Vietnam for 3 weeks, so we spent the afternoon and evening hanging out with them today. The fancy-pants Vietnamese wedding announcements are printed and sealed and ready to go as well. We would’ve probably stuck around a bit longer if Mom didn’t have all her packing to do still (Dad’s completely done packing except for toiletries). So now I’ll know to blame my mad procrastination skillz on Mom

Then just a little less than 2 months after they get back, we’re all going to Mexico for the wedding!!!

My family was supposed to get together last Saturday to celebrate Lunar New Year, but Grandpa postponed it til this weekend because of the weather. As always, there was lots of (loud) talking from the uncles, running around by the kids, and food, and more food, and more and more food. Then New Year’s money!

I’ve been giving money out 3 years now, since I got a job, but it’s been nicely offset by getting money too since I’m still a resident and I’m not married yet. All the uncles handed me my red envelopes with the warning that it’ll be the last time I get New Year’s money from them before laughing and walking off. A terribly kind reminder that I’m growing up…

Unfortunately we had to leave early since I’m on call tomorrow. Though it looks like with all the happy things going on in the family, there will be more and more get-togethers this year. We’ll definitely be making it to more of those before Evan and I move away.
