Having an attending who truly cares about residents and our education and well-being makes a big difference. Having an attending who’ll fight with the other attendings in his department for us tells me my last week in the NICU (ever) will be good, and quite possibly even enjoyable, instead of just tolerable.

Moira has a funny habit of hanging out and cuddling with me when I’m trying to do crunches. What possesses her to do that? And why doesn’t she cuddle when I’m not doing crunches???

Another snowstorm has been predicted for this week, and I opted to not spend the night in the hospital tonight just in case. Instead, I figured it’d be a good opportunity to test out the Rogue on wintry weather and see how it does. After all, this is exactly why Evan and I bought it.

Every once in a while I get in the mood to look around for a possible future house design for Evan and me. This is what I’m currently eying. Too bad it’s in California and (probably) completely out of our price range!

If I had tons of disposable income, I’d buy Moira a bunch of red toys. She loooooooooooves red and I think would be at a loss, and it would be oh so cute.

Do you think dogs can tell when we’re exhausted and overworked? Moira has wanted to play less and cuddle more this past week or so and has become quite endearing. She has not thrown her toys towards me quite as often as she typically does.

2011 is going to be pretty exciting! The wedding is in 5 months and I start a REAL JOB in 6 months! Evan and I are already looking forward to taking it a bit easier for a year before I start fellowship. I can’t wait to see what else the new year brings.

Now that she’s 3, Moira has calmed down considerably. She spent most of the day curled up either in my lap or Evan’s, and we were so proud of her for not begging the entire time we were eating dinner! (It’s a start…) I wonder if there’s some switch in her doggy brain telling her [...]

Today’s been one of those days that, through no one person’s fault, has been crappy and miserable. I didn’t feel as organized as I would like, I was missing some of the simplest things, and one of the families I discharged was rather unhappy as they were leaving. Then, right after getting checkout in the [...]

Tonight’s my final call night in the PICU this month! I’ve even saved up my last day off for Saturday so I’ll be off for 42 glorious hours before I come back. As much as I love this place, I’m rather tired at the end of the long month and am ready to move on [...]

Evan and I bought Moira a new toy (a bacon-flavored nylabone) and she loves it. Yesterday, when I called home to see how things were going, Evan was surprised to see her staring longingly at the bedroom door. He opened the door for her and she trotted in, picked up her bone, and scampered back [...]
