!!!

23 April, 2011 (20:22) | wedding | By: Gina

The shoes have been picked out!  I’m a little shocked I’ve procrastinated so much with all the wedding details and I’m also a little shocked that it doesn’t stress me out (except for the little random outbursts I like to text to poor Michelle).  I am quite excited about flying to Mexico in a month to relax with Evan for a couple weeks though!

My desk is missing

22 April, 2011 (19:19) | home | By: Gina

My computer desk at home has become too cluttered with junk mail that needs to go in the shredder, stethoscopes, reply cards (yay!), study books, invitations I haven’t mailed out yet, and flowers to work at effectively and comfortably.  This has resulted in my migration to the dining table with my laptop.  On one hand, this is pretty nice since Evan and I can sit together and chit chat while we’re both messing around online or while I’m studying and he’s writing.  On the other hand, the wooden dining chairs are unsurprisingly not very comfortable to sit in for long periods of time.  Looks like I may be spending my day off cleaning my desk just so I can work comfortably again!

Feeling rather old

21 April, 2011 (20:41) | home, residency | By: Gina

Waking up early enough to work out, shower, and have breakfast before getting to the NICU (almost) on time every morning means I have to go to bed pretty early if I want a decent amount of sleep.  Like, embarrassingly early.  Dad has told us a few times how early Grandpa always goes to sleep and I’m afraid to admit it’s rather close to when I’ve been dozing off every night.  The good news is I’m more than halfway through the rotation and will soon be able to sleep in, and more importantly stay up late, as much as I want!

Still holding on to the pager…

20 April, 2011 (20:09) | residency | By: Gina

Unfortunately Cheri won’t let me get rid of my pager yet.  It’s still nice knowing the pager is a completely unnecessary bit of residency now, and realizing that it has been unnecessary since March 4th.  It’ll feel so good to get rid of it.

No more pager???

19 April, 2011 (19:37) | residency | By: Gina

I realized at noon conference today that I won’t need my pager the rest of residency.  All I have left are my elective and a month in the ER, and in the NICU they just call the spectralink if they need anything.  In fact, I haven’t bothered wearing my pager since February when I was on wards.  So…is it okay if I turn in my pager already?

Moira’s Misadventures

18 April, 2011 (17:35) | the dog | By: Gina

I caught Moira looking over my arm at my laptop screen this weekend as I was doing a little online shopping.  This combined with her desire to smell flowery make me believe she’s a pretty girly girl after all.

Residential Blues

Mmm, sushi

16 April, 2011 (20:19) | home | By: Gina

Evan and I went to Tokyo tonight for some delicious sushi, and I feel wonderfully full and happy now.  There was this one very enthusiastic guy at a table across from us who appeared to be on a date.  Everything was “SOOO GOOD,” and “AWESOME” according to him.  Mildly annoying, but mostly amusing.  It made me wonder if he really likes sushi that much or if he was just trying to impress the girl.

Baby pictures and Lego sets

15 April, 2011 (18:41) | family, home | By: Gina

I spent a large portion of Sunday with my sisters and parents digging through old family pictures to find a few baby ones of myself for our end of the year banquet.  Mom and Dad had a good laugh at my persistent baldness until the ripe old age of 18 months and at how much skinnier Dad was back in the day.

One of my favorite pictures, which I will submit for the slideshow, shows me gleefully lording over my Lego castle that Dad bought for “me” for Christmas ’86.  I was four and a half when I got the set and was definitely not old enough to follow the instructions.  I clearly remember Dad putting the set together while I was busy playing with the knights and horses that came with the set.  I also clearly remember him showing off to Mom all of “my” hard work once it was complete.  Amazingly enough, his behavior isn’t much different 24 years later…

OMG, Bilbo Baggins!!!

14 April, 2011 (18:31) | nerd stuff | By: Gina

For my fellow nerdy friends, if you’re not friends with Peter Jackson on Facebook, you should be.  He posted a 10 minute long video about the start of production on The Hobbit and it’s wonderful.  There are some familiar faces and some new ones, a good look around Bag End and Elrond’s chambers, and many more little glimpses.  He also promises more videos to come.  Go check it out!

20 more days!

13 April, 2011 (21:54) | residency | By: Gina

20 days until I finish my NICU rotation and until I’m free!!!  I won’t be done with residency until June 30th but I have a couple easy rotations, no call, and (most importantly) the wedding/vacation between May 3rd and then, so it’ll be a cake walk compared to the past few months.

Time to celebrate!

Last call, last hard rotation, a little over a month til we fly to Mexico…

I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Moira’s Misadventures

11 April, 2011 (22:29) | the dog | By: Gina

Moira always seems horribly upset with us if we go out to eat and come home smelling particularly aromatic.  Indian food, Vietnamese food, Thai food, etc.  All drive her crazy.  Poor thing, stuck with her dog food all the time.

Residential Blues

Woohoo, yarn shopping tomorrow!

9 April, 2011 (22:27) | family, home | By: Gina

I got a really cute blanket pattern from Courtney, the NICU fellow, today and plan to go buy some yarn tomorrow to try it out.  I think it’s the pattern I’ll use to make one of the many baby blankets I have lined up for friends who are expecting over the next few months.

So plans for the first day off this month are yarn shopping, playing Lego Star Wars, crocheting, hanging out with the family, and then going out to eat!
